Together we hoped to use the process of collectively weaving core memory to examine the undervalued, feminized forms of craftwork underlying engineering innovations.

Human Scale
‘I was having fun realizing we’re creating a macrochip,’ Remick reflected at the whiteboard, drawing a contrast to the microchip, which she imagined too small to mend by hand. Each stage of this process required adjusting our previous conceptions of matter by introducing new techniques and scales of production.
Labor vs Craft, Redefining Design
We imagined how design might live and be alongside these different inheritances, the invisible legacies of dexterous bodies and commodified labor-complete with their ongoing knots, troubles, and possibilities.
design is in the fabric, the engineering, and the thought process. it demands connecting worlds of high tech computing with traditions of textile production by pointing to the embodied heritage they comprise. It suggests possibilities for a woman, person of color, or member of a marginalized group entering an engineering field and for the person’s desire to enter it.
